    University “Mediterranean” Podgorica is building a collaborative, cross-sector environment that links academia, industry, government, and civil society to accelerate research-to-market especially in ICT sector, with application in banking, energy and telecommunications, and tourism. As part of the Inclusive Ecosystem Integration Labs (IEILs) network, our Lab connects students, staff, and partners with real-world challenges, pilot projects, and inclusive innovation opportunities.

    Our Mission

    • Accelerate applied research and innovation with user-centric, inclusive approaches.
    • Bridge university–industry cooperation through internships, guest lectures, joint projects, and early collaboration in the HMI value chain.
    • Grow capacity by establishing the Institute for Research and Innovation and expanding entrepreneurial skills for students and staff.

    We Strengthen Innovation Ecosystem by

    • Activating partnerships with ICT companies, tourism businesses, public institutions, and NGOs for curriculum co-design, internships, and project work.
    • Linking with national enablers such as the Innovation Fund of Montenegro, Science and Technology Park of Montenegro (STP MNE), and Tehnopolis for mentoring, workshops, and tech transfer pathways.
    • Championing inclusion via initiatives like Girls in ICT Day and student-led programs with NGOs supporting vulnerable groups.

    Innovation Ecosystem Stakeholders


    Academia — Regional and international partners include University Barleti (Tirana), University of Vlora “Ismail Qemali”, Mälardalen University (Sweden), Pan-European University Apeiron (Banja Luka), AUE-FON (North Macedonia), Academy of Applied Studies Polytechnic (Serbia), Faculty of Social Sciences (Belgrade), B.H.M.S. (Lucerne), Libertas University (Zagreb), University of Kragujevac – Faculty of Hotel Management and Tourism, University of Business Studies (Banja Luka), and Ural International Institute for Tourism (Yekaterinburg).

    Industry — SMEs and leading IT firms in Montenegro (e.g., Čikom, Amplitudo, SynergySuite, Vega IT, CoreIT, Bild Studio, Kodio, B-One, MG Soft, Codepixel), major tourism companies (Verde Complex Hotel Podgorica, Hilton Podgorica, HTP Aurel, Karisma Hotels, Ramada by Wyndham). Collaboration modes include internships, guest lectures, and curriculum development.

    Government / Public Sector — Ministry of Education, Innovation Fund of Montenegro, Science and Technology Park of Montenegro, Tehnopolis – Center for Innovation, Chamber of Commerce, AmCham Montenegro.

    Civil Society — Udruženje Roditelji (NGO) for student-led educational initiatives benefiting socially vulnerable groups; Business Start-Up Center Bar for SME and startup support.

    Internal Innovation Structures

    Institute for Research & Innovation (in development): A strategic step to formalize research–industry interfacing, technology transfer, and innovation services within the university.

    Student Association & Alumni Base: More than ten alumni founders indicate early entrepreneurial activity; the Lab will contribute to channeling this momentum into structured programs and partnerships.

     

    Business Start-Up Center (BSC) Bar:

    Founded by the Mediterranean University, Faculty of Tourism, with the goal to support SME development and with special focus on inclusion, prioritizing youth, women, minorities and vulnerable groups.

    Research & Development Infrastructure
    Current Strength: Early-stage collaboration and applied research; growing activity in prototyping and commercialization through partner facilities (STP MNE, Tehnopolis) and joint projects backed by the Innovation Fund.

    Services for Students, Researchers & Industry
    Innovation & Startup

    Idea validation sprints, proposal-writing clinics, and mentoring via national partners (STP MNE, Tehnopolis) and the Innovation Fund’s programs.

     Collaboration

    Contract research, guest lectures, internships, and co-designed curricula with ICT and tourism companies; joint project applications with public bodies.

    Inclusive Ecosystem Integration Labs (IEILs)

    IEILs are living-lab environments where academia, industry, government, and civil society co-create, test, and scale solutions that fast-track HMI innovations while fostering inclusive employment, safety, and wellbeing in labor-intensive sectors. University “Mediterranean” Podgorica’s IEIL is part of a broader regional effort with partner HEIs to upgrade entrepreneurial infrastructures and strengthen research–market pathways.
